Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) are the main systems that control the climate in a building. A pleasant indoor climate therewith goes a lot further than temperature alone, because ventilation and the humidity also play an important role in this. Believe us: once you have an HVAC installation, you do not want anything else. It is important to keep your system in good condition, so that it performs optimally. HVAC maintenance, such as cleaning and repairs, contributes to this.

Lack of maintenance ultimately leads to a decrease in installation capacity and thus an increase in energy costs. Dust and odors can also enter your living room due to pollution and shorten the life of the installation.

Maintenance management: periodic, curative or preventive?

No maintenance strategy is sacrosanct: which (combination of) strategies you prefer is entirely up to you. At Koelonderdelen.nl we mainly do curative and preventive maintenance on our HVAC installations ourselves. This while the installation technician pressed us so strongly to have periodic maintenance carried out by means of a service contract.

It is understandable that a professional technician recommends this, because for installation companies in air-conditioning technology, periodic cleaning and any additional maintenance is a welcome way to fill the quieter time of the year. But whether it is always necessary?

Our HVAC maintenance advice!

Do not underestimate yourself: you can carry out a large part of the maintenance and especially the cleaning of your HVAC system yourself. Air conditioning, heat pump and ventilation systems look complicated, but they often consist of only a few different parts groups. We will indicate what you should take into account per group:

Filters

You can choose between replacing or cleaning. When you decide to clean, you can choose to vacuum or rinse the filters, of course only if the material allows it. When the filter is water resistant, you can use HVAC Foam Cleaner Pro (Indoor) as a cleaning agent.

Valves

Check the valves regularly for correct operation (open/close) and clean with a cleaner such as the HVAC Foam Cleaner Pro (Indoor). Optionally, you can apply a protective film by spraying it with a protection spray. Don’t forget the pivot points!

Casing

Your system casing is also easy to clean and maintain. Clean contaminated outdoor installations with a somewhat more aggressive cleaner, such as the HVAC Foam Cleaner Heavy Duty (Outdoor) and after cleaning we recommend that you apply a protective coating, for which we have, among other things, the HVAC Protect Foam Spray. Indoor installations attract less stubborn dirt, use a fresh-smelling cleaning agent, such as the HVAC Foam Cleaner Pro (Indoor). Again, you can apply a protective film after cleaning with the recommended protection spray.

Fans
Clean the impeller and fan housing thoroughly. Make sure the fan blade can rotate smoothly, even when the motor is not running.

Heat exchanger
In addition to cleaning the heating elements with cleaning agents (for outdoors we recommend HVAC Foam Cleaner Heavy Duty (Outdoor)), you should also check that the fins are not damaged. Post-treatment with a protection spray is also recommended here.

Cleaning products: safe, environmentally friendly and easy to use

Various means are available for degreasing, cleaning and deodorizing your air conditioning, heat pump and ventilation systems. The brands at Koelonderdelen.nl are safe to use and ecologically sound. In addition, most products are biological and probiotic. You can use them on all water resistant surfaces.

Foam cleaners
Foam cleaners ensure, in addition to their cleaning ability, that the organic pollution is broken down. As a result bacteria cannot multiply, or at least not that easy. HVAC Foam Cleaner Pro (Indoor) and HVAC Foam Cleaner Heavy Duty (Outdoor) are two examples of foam cleaners.

Protection spray
The HVAC Protect Foam Spray can be used to give your installation a protective film, preventing dirt, grease and unpleasant odors.

Duct cleaner
A Duct cleaner, such as that from Innotec, is used to clean air ducts. Thanks to the special extension hose with nozzle, the aerosol easily cleans deep into your system. The dirt is absorbed by the foam and the residual liquid leaves your installation via the bottom drain.
